Mission

Swee(t)art is a unique voice in local, urban art. Unaligned with any particular group, the writers of the magazine are free to critically and objectively position art that is currently being shown around Oakland and San Francisco in an arena of national discourse.

Swee(t)art magazine is a monthly, limited edition print periodical distributed to galleries, collectors, artists and critics throughout the Bay Area. Although the magazine is published in full-color with a cover on 60# paper and inside leaves on 32# paper, its format, 5.5” x 8.5” makes reference to the rich “zine” culture of the Bay area and stands out as a different kind of critical magazine.

The magazine began as featuring both Oakland and San Francisco Visual Art and has since narrowed its view. Having realized the emerging fullness, maturity and variety of the local art-scene, this Oakland-based magazine has now in its latest edition, focused exclusively on Oakland Art. The magazine is published in 300 editions, hand-numbered.

Swee(t)art offers a unique and inclusive view of the art-market throughout Oakland and up through issue five, San Francisco . Swee(t)art is dedicated to promoting emerging and mid-career local artists. In addition to featuring artists, the magazine also publishes features on galleries, collectors, curators and other who are peripherally attached to the art-world. To maximize promotion, each feature is timed and published in association with a show or happening that runs concurrent with publication.
